Welcome to ski in Kittilä!

There is an extensive and well-maintained network of cross-country skiing tracks in central Kittilä. The tracks are accessible from the church parking-lot (Valtatie 93, 99100 Kittilä), from Levi Institute (Valtatie 82), from next to district heating plant behind hotel Kittilä building (Valtatie 49), from Kittilä sports centre (Havutie 2), from S-Market (Valtatie 68), from Kittilä Workshops (Teollisuustie 8), near from Kittilän Pesula (Latotie 1) and from Väliauttontie or from Paartoselkä, for instance. At these points you can also park your car.

 

In spring season tracks will be opened to Lapinkylä where the tracks connect with Levi cross-country skiing tracks. When you ski from Kittilä you will find a café in Kultamaa, in the village of Kenttälä, by the lake Nälkäjärvi, 4 km before Lapinkylä. Skiing to Paartoselkä, you will reach a teepee (self-service) along the Ylävitonen-track. Särestöniemi-track will be opened in March before Särestöniemi skiing event.

 

Tracks are maintained daily when necessary, but when a heavy snowfall occurs, the tracks will be cleared after snowfall has ended.
Tracks will be cleared in a following order:
1.    Lit tracks (including Paartoselkä and Ylävitonen)
2.    Honkavaara route
3.    Isovaara route
4.    Route that leads to Levi

Lit Tracks

The main cross-country skiing trail in Kittilä is lit up daily between 6am - 10pm. The main trails in Levi are lit up daily between 6am - 11pm. As the spring progresses and the days are filled with more natural light, the trail lights turn off accordingly.

Skiing with a dog

Certain parts of the tracks are allowed for those who ski with dogs. Dog tracks are marked in track maps with a dog symbol and dashed red line.

A dog track in Kittilä starts at the district heating plant (address Linnatie 15, 99100 Kittilä) and continues to Honkavaara route until Väliauttontie crossing.

In Levi:
Dog track towards Kätkä:  Starting point in Levi centre, marked with letter A in the map
Route: via Immeljärvi, Kätkäjävi, Nuottijärvi, ca. 8 km

Dog track towars Köngäs: Starting point at the parking area of Järvirovantie (Levijärvi), crossing number 93 in the map.
Route: Untill Rauduskylä village, ca. 28 km.

As long as the skiing tracks are maintained, walking a dog is not allowed in tracks. When there is no snow, walking dogs is allowed on ski tracks.
